Start of the home-coming (Leg 7 – Seattle to Panama)

This leg feel like the start of the homecoming as we will go back in to the homely waters of the Atlantic. Yet, first we have to go down the American coast to reach the Panama Canal:

Day 3 – 1st May 2018

I’m back in the watchleader bunk. I have not had this bunk since leg 1. This time feels different, although I still feel the additional responsibility. Not as pressure, but I want everyone on my watch happy. Therefore I often end up doing the jobs I find most boring or hard. I should let this attitude go and lead more from the helmstation.

On other things. We played our joker for this race and we had a reasonable good start. Unfortunately, yesterday evening he halyard is our Spinnaker broke and during the recovery from the water through the A-frame our Code 3 was beheaded. It seems the head has ripped of and was just hanging on by a small line which ripped in the last moment. So currently there is no chance to repair it and we must likely wait until New York to get it fixed.

Still we are holding up pretty well and are in the middle of the fleet with only a short distance to the leading boats.
